Md Mehedi Hasan is a PhD candidate at Murdoch University in Perth, specialising in entomology under the supervision of Associate Professor Wei Xu in the School of Agricultural Sciences. His research focuses on harnessing the potential of the greater wax moth (Galleria mellonella) to biodegrade plastic waste and convert it into valuable food and feed resources.
“I’m thrilled to be working on one of the world’s biggest challenges—plastic waste—and exploring its potential for sustainable food systems,” he says. Mehedi is co-supervised by Prof. David Henry and Dr Shovon Chandra Sarkar from the Food Futures Institute, Murdoch University, and is a recipient of the Murdoch International Postgraduate Scholarship and the Future Food Systems CRC top-up scholarship.
