Perfection Fresh looks to expand export terrain for Calypso mangoes

National fresh-produce grower-distributor Perfection Fresh is fortunate to own the global licensing and marketing rights for Calypso mangoes. This hybrid of a high-yield Florida variety and Australia’s flavourful Kensington Pride (aka Bowen) was a decade in the making. Now, it’s a favourite with Aussie consumers and is rapidly gaining traction in high-value markets for premium fruit across the world.

“We manage the growing and propagation process to ensure all Calypso mangoes meet the company’s criteria for the ‘perfect mango’,” the firm’s CEO Michael Simonetta told Fresh Plaza in September.

“We are actively looking to expand our grower networks in international markets, with plans in Peru, Mexico and China,” Simonetta said. Perfection Fresh is also open to grower expansion in other markets, he added, listing South Africa, Spain and Italy.

“Currently, Australia is our largest market. Strategically, we seek to grow some key export markets such as New Zealand and UAE, as well as China, South Korea, US, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada,” Simonetta said. “This complements the other products across our portfolio that are in demand in key export markets.”
