Md Ashraful Alam is a PhD candidate at the School of Environmental and Rural Science, University of New England, Armidale, NSW. His PhD project aims to evaluate the genotypic variation in photosynthetic and respiratory acclimation to heat stress of rice and determine if these are influenced by N and P. He is exploring the simulation of heat stress responses in rice under a range of N and P using ORYZA modelling programs. Ashraful is progressing his work using controlled environment facilities at the University of New England, Australia, field plots at CIAT, Colombia, and modelling at the International Rice Research Institute, Philippines. Ashraful’s work is expected to generate data-informed nutrient-based management of crop responses to heat stress and thus minimize yield and productivity losses. He is the recipient of an Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP), Destination Australia Program, Future Food Systems CRC top-up scholarship and Carbon Sequestration Fellowship 2024.
