Food firms win big in APCO Packaging Awards

The annual APCO Packaging Awards recognise firms for eco-friendly packaging design, business leadership and education in sustainability. Top gong this year went to Kellogg’s Australia, which netted the Sustainable Packaging Excellence Award for converting 99 per cent of its packaging to a renewable format. Biopak founder Richard Fine took out the Sustainability Champion Award for his efforts promoting compostable packaging.

Several high-profile FMCG companies won Our Packaging Future (OPF) Awards, recognising projects and initiatives that help Australia reach its 2025 National Packaging Targets. They included Nestlé Australia, for Australia’s first chemically recycled content soft food wrapper and for its KitKat ‘Give the Planet a Break’ recycling campaign; BioPak, which won an Improved Collection and Recycling Systems award for its food-service-oriented organic recycling initiative Compost Connect; and Coles, educating industry in sustainability with its packaging data project across the Coles Own Brand supplier base. Other FMGC awardees included Austcor, CHEP Australia and Arcadian Organic & Natural Meat Co.
