FIAL report shows alignment between agrifood sector value-adds and UN’s SDGs

A Food Innovation Australia Ltd (FIAL) report released on 6 April 2023 details the “close links” between steps it advocates for Australia to realise the $200B opportunity in our food and agriculture sector, and meeting the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In 2020, the Australian Government’s Food and Agribusiness Growth Centre, FIAL, published Capturing the Prize: The A$200 billion opportunity in 2030 for the Australian food and agribusiness sector. The report identified 19 growth opportunities, pre- and post-farmgate, with the potential to unlock more than AU$200 billion of value in Australia’s agrifood sector by 2030.

Further analysis from FIAL has found that these 19 opportunities align closely with the 17 SDGs and 169 corresponding targets developed by the UN as part of its 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The new report, ‘Sharing Knowledge: Aligning the $200B sector potential with the SDGs’, highlights the linkages.
