Becoming a future food professional

In recognition of the skills needs, our partnering institutions in the CRC offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across Australia that may help you become a future food industry professional. Below are just some of the courses relevant to our CRC research themes.

Regional and urban food planning

Queensland University of Technology’s Bachelor of Urban Development (Honours)(Urban and Regional Planning) helps students learn to design and manage the use of land and natural resources to meet human needs in a sustainable way. Read more

The University of New South Wales’ Bachelor of City Planning is a 4-year full-time honours degree through which students learn to shape sustainable, equitable, healthy and inspiring built environments. Read more

The University of New England’s Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning provides its students with a broad, thorough understanding of design and planning in urban and regional contexts across a range of key areas including land use, social and economic issues, transport, professionalism and ethics, and environmental and planning law. Western Sydney University’s Bachelor of Planning (Pathway to Master of Urban Management and Planning) degree is a 4-year accredited program in urban and regional planning. It gives you the education needed to take a leadership role in urban management, strategic planning and/or policy development. Read more

Protected cropping and sustainable farming

Western Sydney University’s Graduate Diploma in Protected Cropping, involving 1 year of full-time or 2 years’ part-time study,  is fully accredited and unique to WSU. It incorporates science, technology and business skills, with a focus on intensive horticulture. The practical components of the course are centred on the high-tech experimental greenhouse on WSU’s Hawkesbury Campus, which is a hub for FFS Program 2 research and translation activities. The University of New England’s 4-year Bachelor of Rural Science and 3-year Bachelor of Agriculture are just two of its many courses in sustainable farming, horticulture and agricultural systems. Part of UNE’s commitment to a sustainable future, these courses are helping to develop graduates who can effectively balance the needs of society, economy and environment while meeting the food and fibre needs of a rapidly changing planet. Murdoch University’s Bachelor of Agricultural Science prepares students for a dynamic career in agriculture as they develop core skills in science, chemistry and biology while pursuing a major in Animal Science, Animal Health or Crop and Pasture Science. Read more

Food science

Murdoch University is offering a new three-year Bachelor of Food Science and Nutrition course, parts of which will be conducted within the $9m, state-of-the-art Food Technology Facility at the Western Australian Food Innovation Precinct. The course is designed to build skills in human nutrition bioscience, food science and food biotechnology as well as nutrition marketing, sports nutrition, food production, agri-nutrition and nutrigenomics research. The University of New South Wales’ Bachelor of Food Science (Honours) enables students to study the properties of food and ingredients to ensure their safe use and consumption and have the opportunity to apply themselves in food product design and enquiry projects, professional food practice, food systems management, and research towards a thesis project. Western Sydney University likewise offers several degrees focussed on food such as its Bachelor of Applied Science (Food Technology) that provides a professional education in the food industry and associated organisations. Read more

Charles Darwin University’s Bachelor of Health Science/Master of Nutrition is a combined course that qualifies you to pursue a diverse career in health, focusing on how food and nutrition impacts health across individuals, families, communities and industry. Read more
