The City of Coffs Harbour, Queensland University of Technology and Future Food Systems will work together to establish an open-ecosystem ‘Living Lab’ where stakeholders can connect, collaborate and co-develop innovations that add value to Coffs’ agrifood sector. Meet Elli Irannezhad: Freight transport and logistics expert

Thriving in the male-dominated fields of freight and logistics is no easy feat. But Dr Elli Irannezhad is a high achiever. She honed her engineering expertise on construction sites and with government transport bodies in Iran and ramped up her research skills with ARRB before joining UNSW where, alongside her own academic work, she supervises FFS PhD Kesewa Agyemang, who’s modelling agrifood supply chains. Extensive studies in agriculture and horticulture, early industry experience, and “dedication to making a difference in the field of protective horticulture” made doctoral student Md Mazadul Islam the perfect fit for a role on the FFS-backed ‘Sustainable fertigation’ project, a collaboration between Western Sydney and Qatar universities with wide-reaching impact. Put your mechanical and chemical engineering skills to use on the ‘Circular-economy construction materials’ ‘upcycling’ project with innovative SME EcoMag; work closely with Sanitarium Health Food Company to optimise its cereal-drying process in the ‘Art of grain drying’ project; or join the UNSW-Sanitarium team looking for smarter ways to test packaged dairy goods in the ’Non-destructive milk product testing’ project.
