Western Australian food innovation hub makes big stride forward
On 4 May, CRC stakeholders met at the soon-to-be-completed Food Innovation Precinct Western Australia (the Precinct) in the Shire of Murray to sign lease agreements for core facilities within the precinct. The CRC has approved an $11.5 million project with the WA Government and Murdoch University to create a Food Technology Facility as part of the Precinct. The Precinct will become an ecosystem of small-to-medium enterprises, research and development institutions, wider industry players including international agri-innovation firms, and government entities providing local and global entrepreneurs, food companies, and agri-enterprises an environment to research, develop and commercialise new value-added food products.

CEO moves on
David Eyre, founding CEO of the Future Food Systems CRC, is stepping down from the role.
Future Food Systems Chair, Fiona Simson, thanked Eyre for his vision and dedication over the past three years in leading the CRC.
“David’s belief in the CRC model, and the power of industry, government and research institutions working together has laid a great foundation for our CRC. The CRC is perfectly positioned to achieve a step-change in our food value and supply systems which is a fitting testament to David’s vision,” she said.
Eyre said the CRC’s mission to join low-environmental-impact food production and better human nutrition is of immense importance to global sustainability. It is also critical to ensuring that Australian industry adapts to the ‘conscious consumer’ mega-trend.

Developing a food metabolomics library: Ruey-Leng Loo
Dr Ruey-Leng Loo, part of the team at Murdoch University’s world-leading Australian National Phenome Centre, heads up the CRC’s flagship ‘Metabolomic food library’ project, producing detailed chemical fingerprints for Australian food products that prove their provenance and nutritional credentials. Protected cropping facilities for the Adelaide and Tasmanian growing regions have been fully mapped and peer-reviewed, with the project team currently mapping PC facilities in Queensland.
