CRC industry partners include technology firms developing solutions for growers in the areas of facility configuration, lighting, IoT and automation.

Australia’s protected cropping sector is currently heavily reliant on imported proprietary technology for the design, construction and operation of indoor facilities. This technology, typically, has been developed for Northern European conditions. CRC partners see opportunities for solutions that are optimised for Southern Hemisphere conditions and that will help grow demand for high-tech vertical and artificial light facilities that can be deployed in cities, close to consumers. This scoping project has provided:

  • a high-level survey of local industry needs for future facilities and technology;
  • a strategic review of global innovation and best practice;
  • recommendations for future research activity; and
  • an assessment of pathways for commercialisation, focusing on barriers to domestic manufacture and on exemplars of success in industry sectors with similar profiles.
