Prof. Zhanying Zhang is a Professor of Bioprocess Engineering at the Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy at QUT. He is also an Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellow (2018-2021). Prof. Zhang’s primary research areas are bioprocessing and biorefining and his research aims to solve real world problems in energy, resource and waste. His current projects and project activities include (1) lignocellulosic biomass pretreatment and biorefining for biofuels, biochemicals and bio-based materials, (2) food waste processing and biorefining for nutraceuticals and value-added products, and (3) animal waste and sludge processing for resource recovery and waste management cost reduction. Prof. Zhang has published many high quality research articles in Q1 journals including Green Chemistry, ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, Bioresource Technology. He has also been granted 12 patents in 3 patent families in the area of biomass pretreatment and processing.
