Talaat Ahmed, is a research professor of plant science at Qatar University (QU). He obtained his PhD in plant molecular biology and genetics from Yokohama City University, Japan. Joining QU in 2006, he has made significant contributions to the field of plant molecular genetics and agricultural sciences. In September 2014, Prof Ahmed took on the role of Coordinator of the Biological Sciences Program within the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at QU. With expertise as a Plant Molecular Geneticist, his research interests revolve around Genome mapping and QTL analysis, as well as various molecular markers such as RFLP, AFLP, RAPD, SSR, EST, CAPS, and dCAPS. Prof Ahmed has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills by successfully securing numerous competitive research projects totaling approximately 8.0 Million dollars. These include 5 NPRPs (National Priorities Research Program), 2 MME (Ministry of Municipality and Environment) projects, one QSTP (Qatar Science and Technology Park) project, and several UREPs (Undergraduate Research Experience Program), among others. Working with a diverse and multidisciplinary research team, he has been instrumental in the execution and management of these projects. Furthermore, Prof Ahmed has supervised several Master’s (MSc) and four doctoral (PhD) students since obtaining his PhD. His dedication to mentoring and guiding young researchers is commendable. Prof Ahmed’s significant contributions to his field are evidenced by his publication record. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed papers and numerous conference abstracts, all of which have been published in esteemed international journals. Additionally, he has co-authored two book chapters published by Springer.
