Future Food Systems CRC is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr James Krahe as its new chief executive officer.

Formerly the Innovation Manager at Food Innovation Australia Limited (FIAL), Dr Krahe will commence in the role on 16 January 2023, replacing interim-CEO, Mr Richard Norton.

An agrifood innovator at heart, Dr Krahe is tasked with encouraging collaboration across the Australian food and agribusinesses sector and will support the ground-breaking research happening across Future Food Systems’ project portfolio.

Dr Krahe has strong knowledge and connections within government, industry, and research, and is experienced in food and nutritional science, holding a PhD in Food Science, and a Bachelor of Human Nutrition (Hons), from the University of Newcastle.

Dr Krahe said the opportunity to combine his corporate experience with industry was what appealed to him most about the role.

To be able to leverage my corporate experience gained at PepsiCo and Kellogg’s, and to apply that through working with industry to translate research into commercial outcomes is an exciting opportunity,” said Dr Krahe.

“I am passionate about nutrition, health and circular economies, and I look forward to leading Future Food Systems CRC into a new era of research, collaboration and innovation,” he added.

Future Food Systems CRC Chair, Fiona Simson, said Dr Krahe was the ideal candidate for the role. “James is an up-and-coming agrifood innovator and next-generation leader,” said Simson. “He offers an exciting new direction for the CRC, and I look forward to seeing James reach his full potential in the role.”

Ms Simson also thanked to interim-CEO, Mr Richard Norton, for his leadership over the previous six months.

“Richard was parachuted in during a transitional period for the CRC and has proven himself to be a consummate professional, leading with distinction, helping reset stakeholder relationships and setting the financial direction for the CRC for the next six years,” said Simson.

Mr Norton will resume his position as CEO of Food Agility CRC on a full-time basis in early January 2023.
