‘Change in dietary preference’ is the principal factor behind an expected rise in demand for plant-based and alternative proteins across Australia in coming years, found this 2019 consumer survey into plant-based foods, including plant-derived proteins.

The survey also found that as well as the 10-odd per cent of Australians who identify as vegans or vegetarians, 12 per cent identify as ‘meat-reducers’ and 20 per cent as ‘flexitarians’.
