As we approach the close of 2023, Future Food Systems invites all our partners to an informal gathering to recognise and celebrate the accomplishments of the past year. This is an opportunity for FFS personnel, PhD students and industry partners to mingle, share in the year’s achievements and enjoy some delectable food and drink. The Networking Night will also provide a platform for PhD students to share their contributions to FFS projects via short videos showing the real-world impacts of their research and its role in addressing challenges for Australia’s agrifood sector. Victualis 2 highlights food resilience challenges – and solutions – for the ACT

The second Victualis dinner in Canberra, hosted by Future Food Systems partner Regional Development Australia ACT and the Canberra Region Food Collective, was an opportunity for agrifood-sector stakeholders from across the ACT to hear from leaders in the field and explore how government, industry, researchers and community can collaborate to develop a robust, sustainable food system for the nation’s capital. Second PhD student graduates from FFS cohort

Ripan Debnath contributed to a series of Future Food Systems-backed projects as part of his doctoral studies at UNSW, including the ‘Western Sydney agrifood mapping and analytics’ project, with Liverpool City Council, and the ‘Namoi agribusiness planning tool’ and ‘Future freight modelling’ projects with Namoi Unlimited. Now he’s been appointed as a Consultant at University of Newcastle’s Institute for Regional Futures. We congratulate Ripan on taking out his PhD and look forward to hearing about his career as it progresses. Read more

Angus Dingley, PhD student: Improving warm-zone raspberry cultivation

Supported by Future Food Systems, University of New England PhD student Angus Dingley is exploring how temperature extremes affect pollination in polytunnel-grown raspberry plants. The goal is to help growers mitigate the negative impacts of warmer climes on fruit quantity and quality. Read more
