Representatives spanning Australia’s agrifood, research and governmental sectors are set to converge on Western Australia this week for Future Food Systems’ pinnacle event, For Food’s Sake.

Scheduled over two days, the official proceedings of For Food’s Sake will kick off with a Summit at the amazing Boola Katitjin building, located on the campus of major event partner Murdoch University, on Thursday 22 February. The Summit will serve as a platform to spotlight pivotal initiatives, research endeavours and projects poised to shape the future of food, not only in Australia but globally, exploring crucial themes such as food security, value addition, automation, collaboration and sustainability.

Summit attendees can anticipate an engaging array of keynote speeches and interactive panel discussions featuring esteemed figures deeply entrenched within Australia’s agrifood and research spheres. Among the speakers are Dr Natasha Teakle from AgriStart; Distinguished Professor David Tissue, an expert in crop science from Western Sydney University; Professor Johannes le Coutre, a leading cellular agriculture scientist from UNSW Sydney; Dr Mark McHenry from Mt Lindesay farm; and space nutritionist Dr Flávia Fayet-Moore.

Expressing enthusiasm for the calibre of talent featured in both the Summit and Gala Dinner Programs, Future Food Systems CEO Dr James Krahe remarked, “We’ve expanded upon the solid groundwork laid during our inaugural Summit in 2022, aiming not only towards the horizon but also into the realm of space.”

“Guests can anticipate a stimulating day brimming with intellectually nourishing discussions, tackling pressing issues shaping the agrifood sector and future consumer landscapes,” Dr Krahe added.

Following the Summit, guests are in for a memorable culinary experience at the For Food’s Sake Gala Dinner, hosted at premier steakhouse 6HEAD Perth, situated in Elizabeth Quay. Alongside savouring delectable creations from the culinary team led by Sean Hall and Shane Middleton, guests can expect an evening of festivities and special presentations, overseen by former ABC broadcaster and agricultural enthusiast Verity James.

Concluding the For Food’s Sake event on February 23 is the grand opening of the new Food Technology Facility in Stake Hill, aka SIFT. The day-long tour will include post-ribbon-cutting guided tours of the SIFT as well as an afternoon bus tour of Brugan Brewery and the historic Melville Park farm in Brunswick. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to sample some of Western Australia’s finest produce and beverages, further enriching their experience of the region’s gourmet landscape.
