FIAL-AIFST Food Safety Governance workshop

The safety of our food supply is critical to maintaining our health and the viability of food businesses.

The Commonwealth’s Food and Agribusiness Growth Centre, Food Innovation Australia Ltd (FIAL), in partnership with the Australian Institute for Food Safety and Technology (AIFST), invites food-industry leaders to attend its online Food Safety Governance for Directors course.

Senior managers, executives and company Directors have a legal obligation to develop organisation-wide systems and organisational cultures that can ‘recognise, evaluate and prevent or mitigate food safety risk’, notes FIAL.

In this practically compact 2.5-hour Zoom webinar, attendees will learn the importance of food safety governance and how to support the production and sale of safe food, domestically and overseas.

The workshop

The workshop, run via Zoom, is designed to provide a governance overview for Directors, Executives and senior management of food manufacturing and supply businesses based in Australia, to support the production and sale of safe food both domestically and overseas.

The aim of the workshop is to help food-business leaders understand the importance of food safety governance, and their roles and responsibilities in assuring food safety performance.

What will the workshop cover?

The workshop agenda will discuss tools to help monitor and verify food safety system performance, and the essentials of good food safety governance, including:

  • Why manage food safety risk?
  • An overview of the food safety regulation system in Australia
  • Food safety culture
  • Food safety risk framework
  • Systems and resources to assist with management of food safety risk.

Facilitator Fiona Fleming, AIFST CEO, has more than 30 years’ experience in the food industry. A seasoned Corporate and Regulatory Affairs professional, she’s led and facilitated change and has developed management strategies across a portfolio of food policy and regulation matters in global FMCG and NGO environments.
