The project is addressing specific design challenges identified by Greenbio as it seeks to develop and commercialise proprietary solutions for mobile modular vertical hydroponic growing systems. Greenbio successfully produces herbs and other high value medicinal plant crops in existing vertical growing systems at its R&D facility and has developed a number of provisionally patented growing system concepts to improve the efficiency of its next generation of growing systems. The project is using iterative design, state-of-the-art simulation and additive manufacturing techniques to rapidly develop novel prototypes, thereby reducing both time and cost in the R&D process. Activities include analysing the system inputs and outputs in the field through a IoT sensor-based experimental framework to assess performance against commercial criteria. The project is intended as a scoping and validation step before Greenbio undertakes more intensive and expensive commercial development.
