Why deliver to retailers rather than consumers?

Gander notes that some large-scale and boutique food and beverage producers are already using digital e-commerce platforms to connect directly with consumers. And the COVID-19 pandemic has shown millions of consumers worldwide the benefits of buying groceries online.

Now we have a multitude of affordable delivery systems and new packaging technology that protects delicate produce from being damaged in transit, we have to ask: why don’t more food producers sell their products this way?
