Pathogen-detecting platform for indoor and outdoor cropping wins US$250,000 prize

Scanit Technologies has netted US$250,000 from San Diego, California-based acceleration fund Radicle Growth and Corteva Agriscience as the winner of the Radicle Challenge by Corteva, the aim of which is ‘to identify a promising ag-tech start-up that is solving agricultural challenges with novel technology solutions’.

Scanit’s winning technology is an in-field platform that allows growers – indoor and outdoor – to detect airborne plant pathogens before they infect plants.

The novel technology ‘ingests’ air particles, analyses their contents and sends the resulting data to the cloud where it is continuously crunched using machine learning and classification algorithms.

Active spore counts are conveyed to growers via mobile devices, allowing them to take action to prevent incursions that could otherwise devastate crop production, necessitate increased use of chemicals and raise operational costs.
